Hi people

It seems like hostbill released a new and quite enhanced cloudstack module: CloudStack v2 - http://hostbillapp.com/features/apps/cloudstackv2/
But... does it mean that we now have to purchase this module beside the one we already have?????? or will it be upgraded as normal?

The right response would be that existing purchasers receive an upgrade price the same way, for example, Microsoft do when they release a new version of Office.  However, I don't think KBKP have this pricing model and I would assume its a new purchase.

You can try logging a ticket in the licensing section and asking how existing users of v1 are treated in terms of pricing when upgrading.
Kind regards,

I do not understand why you have to suddenly pay for a plugin you have already paid for? This means that the next time a module is released, they will just advertise it as "new module v2" - Why not as an upgrade? It is yet another sign that they have become so greedy and make every effort to keep the customer deceived. They have learned nothing from their past mistakes and criticism. Apparently it is normal for them to run their business like this.

Exactly !!!

Last time I contacted them to get something they said I need to re-purchase the module I already own.

So what you posted is exactly how it works now.

You buy/own the a module. Lets say Cloudstack or the Ticket Module.

He launches version 2 with one new feature. Same module but since now it has one or two new features its version 2.

Since you never purchased version 2 you need to buy it again.

Then a new feature is launched in the module version 2 and the module becomes version 3. So now to get this feature you need to purchased it again, so now you purchased the same module 3 times !!!

What is worse, is that your old version will not get bug fixes either. You are buying an obsolete software so the "owned" license is a huge lie. You will need to keep buying the modules again and again, of course he does not mention that anywhere on his website, otherwise people would not actually purchase the software.

The bad part is that this is actually legal. He finally found a loop hole in the European legal system, since if I remember correctly someone said they had to provide support for any type of leasing license by law so they killed any type or leased/monthly approach.

Since he does not want to provide support he tried the "owned" license approach, but then he realized he is not getting regular income and he cannot charge for maintenance&support since he does not want to give support or even reply to bug fixes or reply to customers at all. So now he found a way to cheat. He is selling and promoting "owned" purchases but actually its a hidden lease. He will just keep increasing the version number and voila, you did not purchased that new version and you need to buy it again in order to get the bug fixes or features.

And once people discover this, he will change the license again. Don“t wonder if you wake up one morning to find out you need to pay now 100$ a month to keep using your software without any notification or advance warning. Coming from hostbill this would not surprise me at all since he is trying to milk out every dime from the installs they still have active.

If someone is interested in my license+modules I will gladly sell it since I will not keep using the software in the future as I will not keep re-purchasing modules all the time.
