Hello there,

Here is my situation. Client has created a new order for which a new invoice was created. Then rather than pay off the invoice same client added funds which generated another invoice.

Finally, client has paid a second invoice using Paypal and has left with Unpaid invoice for a new order.

Any suggestions how to apply added funds to an open first invoice the right way?

Thanks in advance,

Well, since community was at little help in that case I've figured out this myself.

All what is needed is to login as a client, click "Pay due invoices" button and look for a link called "You have credit available! Click here to apply it to this invoice" at the top of web page. By clicking "Click here to apply it to this invoice" you make credit applied to all outstanding invoices.

It works OK but...there is an obvious bug with the way Income is being calculated for the particular client. Even though you have applied a credit to unpaid invoice, Income field gets a sum of previously added money (showed up as a credit) and paid invoice for which the credit was used. In other words in Income line the invoice amount paid with credit money (received via "Add Money" option) was accounted twice while it is the same money came via "Add Money" and applied to the outstanding invoice. This is 100% bug. Yes, low priority bug but it will get your income metrics all messed up.

Thanks for reading up to this point.

Good catch I have seen the same thing. Do you have a bug report in hostbill that we could vote it up as it not only counts the money incorrectly it creates unnecessary invoices.
