How do I stay logged in indefinately???

I keep getting logged off - usually when I'm updating a long diatribe in the knowledge base or something else equally frustrating.

It goes like this. I log in, check the box that says "remember me", and I'm in the admin area.

Then I work... no prob. If I go for a walk, or sit on a screen for a long time and then click on some action, the system may or may not make me log in again.

Now, I can go to another computer that I was logged into the admin area with yesterday at some point, open a browser, click on the shortcut to the admin area, and I might see my admin area and be logged in just fine there.

What is going on there?

How can... where can I affect settings to just have it keep me logged in? At least for my superadmin (for lack of a better term) user? I don't want to keep seeing all these admin login logs showing me logging in twenty times a day, and would prefer to just be logged in except for when I log off or attempt a login from a fresh machine.

thanks :)

I cannot for the life of me figure this one out. I'd like to extend my session time limit, but have to this date not known the answer to this one.

Tallship, you should know better than having an indefinite login session. ;) (Unless you have 3 patrol guards on the premises 24/7)

I don't have the answer either.  I find the log-outs to be random.  Sometimes it's a few days, and sometimes it's a few minutes.

This is quite troublesome for me too. At least it works days for you guys. From my experience, the longest is a day. haha. The randomness is so random.

Okay then, it's not just the 80's coming back to haunt me for all my sins then ;)

EDIT: I thought that I would add why this bothers me so much. Generally speaking I don't mind, but the admin logins tracked in the log is something I like to watch, and as much as I'm in, my own logins clutter everything up there so I have to click through pages of info to glean stats on the other staff members.

I wish there was a "Not me" feature where I could filter out all of my own logins in those system logs, so that the 'data', actually becomes 'information' that I can use - I don't need to see that I logged in twenty something times in a day, and that having been said, it would be nice if the logs would show the IPs (uh, oh... sounds like a feature request) so I don't have to write batch files that use data from the database as well as syslog to have something useful.

Bradley, get Firefox. Then, get the plugin ReloadEvery. That's what it's called. Then, set a tab with your HostBill open to reload every 5 minutes or so. You'll be logged in indefinitely as long as your PC is powered on, ready to be operated by an evil-doer of the night! :)

Thanks Lawrence! There's no need for me to get FF here. Got the plugin and will initialize next time I restart IceCat ;)

Another kewl plugin, FYI, is Siphon - Whenever you install FF or IceCat or IceWeasel, install that (Siphon) first, and it might even be the only plugin you'll need to install (unless you installed some plugins manually). I also like to keep bookmarks sync'd w/Xmarks too, but I don't ever have to install that or AdBlock Plus or pretty much any of my fav addons - Siphon does that immediately after installing it on a freshly installed browser :)

Another, especially handy feature of Siphon is that, as you may or may not be aware, you can't just go to Tools ==> Addons and search for a plugin in IceCat - only addons that have the official nod from the FSF and RMS will show - so you have to actually open a browser tab and go directly to http://addons.mozilla.org - but Siphon doesn't even care which one of the three you're using - it just does it's job - one click - restart FF/IceCat/IceWeasel - Boom Shakala!!! All done and you're a happy camper :)

But I recommend that you don't accept any of it's recommendations just let it handle what you already have and sync it once and a while to make sure that all your browsers have all the same plugins, minus what you make adjustements for by ignoring, which siphon handles nicely

Again, thanks for the tip Lawrence!

UPDATE: That plugin won't work for me.

Not to worry though ;)

The reason it didn't work for me is because after installing it, i was notified that it's incompatible/conflicts with, Tab Mix Plus - which has the same feature, although it went unnoticed by me.

This is not w/o issues, however. For example, when responding with a lengthy reply to a ticket, sometimes the screen is refreshed and the ticket edit window remains open, while sometimes it goes somewhere else - but even then, it saves my work up to that point in the ticket as a draft so nothing is lost :)

I set it at 15 minutes initially, and that doesn't always work it seems. but five minutes does. If I'm going to be in a window for longer than 5 minutes I'll open it in a new tab.

So far so good. Not perfect, but better :)

Thanks Lawrence!

You're welcome Tallship! Remember, the page that automatically refreshes should be in it's own tab that you don't touch. You'll have two tabs open for HostBill. It's best to open up a new browser window (not tab) and just minimize that to another work space so it's out of the way.

Oh okay - that's excellent advice!

I didn't even think about it, but I was working on a ticket and inadvertently did just that because I didn't want that ticket to refresh and send it to a draft state. I'll use this as my M.O. from now on. Again, excellent advice and thanks for helping me discover that feature in another plugin I had installed in icecat!!!

Tallship i found out a way to stay online!
You can just login, go to live chat open the live chat and then if you like you can use the radio button to go offline chat mode. but the new popup window (chat) will automaticaly resfresh to show you users online etc. This will prevent you from getting closed session in your backend.
Hope this info is usefull for you!

Thanks Blackrider :)

I'm not currently using HostBill's chat system, but I might give it a shot and play with that. The live help chat system I use does a lot more than HostBill's, and works on an unlimited number of other sites, although it does lack the integration to open a fresh ticket in the ticketing system, which is one thing that's nice about it :)

I'll prolly see if there's some way I can tweak it so that I can use it, since I've never even installed it at all so I should at least get familiar with it, and this is a good reason to play with it :)

Thanks again!
