Muted? heh. Not quite sure what that is.

Poor old Nibb got muted.

What is muted? is it banned, or just like "moderated" in Mailman archives, where all of their posts must first be approved by a mod?

Is he being punished for potty mouth for a certain duration, or has he been banished from the realm? LOL.

50-100 points = muted.
5-49 points = watched.

Nibb isn't banned, there were some complaints on the forums and mods had to respond. Nibb is a great guy, but there was a little discomfort going around on the forums.

This doesnt' affect Nibb in anyway, points go down 3 points a day until they're below 50, then he can post again.

Okay I thought maybe he got banned for making those two contract killer remarks or something to that affect. He was trolling Patrick pretty hard too - but he's got a thick skin ;)

I don't understand the points thing either. I see likes and dislikes, with positive or negative scores. How does someone see points? And where do they come from? I hope I don't have too many of them if they're a bad thing.

At least I make sure not to drink and post :)

SMF's built in system shows positive and negative for admins, but you won't know where they're coming from. I can tell you though you don't have any negatives. People must really like you. ;)

I wouldn't ban Nibb, I'm not into that. It's been requested, but I didn't think that would be fair.

Nah, I wouldn't suggest that. He's more vitriolic than me most of the time, but I try to do a lot of that in jest or at least with a light heart while I think the confrontational aspect is what gets him into trouble.

But he provides useful, well thought out, and easy to follow instructions that help people - have helped me too. I'll take a troll hook once in a while, but usually won't let someone who is trolling really hook me up - that's where he gets into trouble. He trolls and then gets trolled back and won't let go - kinda like the monkey and the grape in the hole.

Spot on.  I'm easy to hook, especially when someone who (not just Nibb) once complained, moaned and groaned at the crap suddenly takes a 180 and starts defending the software.  On another forum i'm a long time user of i laughed at a thread of someone who came out and complained how the site has turned to complaining and when you go through his post history all he did was complain.  Irony i guess and i end up in a tit for tat because i can't help but post about the iron of the post.

I think debate is great, healthy but when it gets confrontational it can turn personal.

As for the mute, i'm surprised non-mods can see it.  I didn't think you could.  If it helps any, i recommended you as a mod :P LOL  I also liked your comment so welcome to the lucky number 7

I have it set to public because I feel people are entitled to know why someone who's a regular has suddenly stopped posting.

Personally, I'd rather the Muted status wasn't shown, because it seems kind of rude.  I mean it's one thing to tell me that I'm out of line and I can't post for a couple weeks.  It's another thing to tell everyone.  But that's just my opinion.

That's one of the reasons why i said i was surprised by it.  Nibb acted out, but i feel it may make users feel embarrassed they were muted now that everyone knows

Well at least it provides some explanation as to why someone isn't posting.

It might be less rude, or perhaps a bit more tongue in cheek at least, if it said, "Muzzled8)
