Hi,

Can someone tell me how you create credit notes.

I have unpaid invoices that I want to apply a credit note to.

I don't need to refund the invoice as it has not been paid.

thanks in advance.

Note:  I have enabled credit notes under the general settings

Have a look at the bottom of the wiki.

I dont know if you can create a credit note to an invoice that has not been paid.   I just tried this (using the method explained in the link above) and and it errored saying that.
Kind regards,

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

Looks like this is working.

Did some checking on business practice and appears a credit note should only be applied against paid invoices.   Unpaid invoices should either be cancelled or voided.

So looks like HB is behaving appropriately.

Guess my choices are either to manually set the invoice as paid then raise a credit note or cancel the invoice.   Will investigate some more about what is the 'best practice' around this.

Thanks

BRJP

That feels about right to me - we delete invoices that have not amounted to anything.  We provide Credits if the payment has gone through.

Hi,

Do you delete or cancel?

Deleting would remove all record of it, but cancel would keep the invoice on record but marked as cancelled.

Guess this is more a question about best business practice now

Its a good question - I think you are right about being best practise.

If the invoice has no relevance to accounting then I delete it - but you could retain for your records sake.
