Update To This Topic (May 29, 2013 9:50PM EST)

Any posts found to be harassing will be edited / deleted / archived. There is a sense of resentment towards Kris, but nobody has the right to post harassing remarks. Moderators have every right to lock, move, edit, or archive topics, so please be respectful. A Warning System will be put into place if this continues. Although this will probably not hurt you, it will certainly help keep these forums clean.

There's been quite a few posts that're hostile in nature. The rules also have more spider / web crawler views than member views. With that said, users MUST read the rules. The Forum rules are simple. If you see a post on the forums that is breaking the rules, there is a report button.

The Rules contain a mere handful of sentences.

People have the right to be frustrated towards Kris, but should not be hostile. We should all act professional and courteous. Further hostility will result in the post being archived in a private section. Kris is a human being, and we should treat him as such. Hostility is not welcome here.

Also, if anyone notices anything illegal on the forums, REPORT IT. You can also include comments in your report and provide links to legal resources proving it's legality. I don't welcome illegal content on my servers. I hope you all find this a reasonable statement. I will continue to keep this forum open, but we need to keep it professional.

  • This forum will always be open.
  • I have absolutely nothing to gain from keeping this forum up.
  • Everyone deserves a right to freedom of speech.
  • Hostility will not be tolerated.
  • Hostility towards Kris is a form of harassment.
  • Kris did not request this to be posted, this is of my own accord.

So please, keep it professional. Comments will be open so users may respond with their views. After some time has passed, this post will be archived.

I have to give credit where it's due regarding Kris the security issue. He did address the issue and we also received an email with the security alert.

Besides leaving the exploit laying around doesn't do anyone good anyway since most of us have already patched and can't test it anyway. Not that it was really important to do so either.

Thanks to Patrick for archiving that, since 'm sure there are many folks out there post 4.4.0 that aren't even going to hear about the issue for a long time, if ever. Some people just don't check for security announcements - One of the reasons so many machines have been historically rooted is because they run BIND for no good reason and never look back.

I just hope all of the ClientExec folks have a community as tight as us here and got the word out amongst themselves to patch their vulnerability as well.

Now Kris, just because I said something nice about you doesn't mean I don't still think you're an meat head, or that I'm going to stop riding your tail. But thanks for doing the right thing and getting it done quickly.

He apparently can surprise us all sometimes.  Good work on his part taking action promptly.  So, at least it was handled.  Very happy about that.

Yes, its nice to know that security in the software is a big concern. I can honestly live with bugs and no support, but security should be high priority and it seems this is the case. As a patch was done very quickly. So excellent job!
