HostBill 4.6.4 - New Breakages - New Fixes -

HostBill 4.6.4 is out now, and everyone wants to know what will this version break, and what was broken before that works now.

I figure it will be a good thing for me to start a new topic with this heading every week, or whenever a new version is released. We certainly can't count on kbkp to tell the truth in their changelogs, as they often lie and close bugs in their so-called bug reporting system saying they've fixed those bugs.

I'm not going to focus on long standing bugs here. This is primarily an open call for all hostbill owners to report any new breakages  they observe following their upgrades to the latest version. Some of us are braver than others, or have access to development environments where we can test prior to upgrading our production systems.

If you're either one of those, please report any new breakages you encounter here in this thread.

Not as important, but if you notice that something is actually working following an update that previously didn't, please post that as well.

Only confirmed NEW breakages or fixes please.

Important to understand! Breakages may not actually be the result of bugs introduced into HostBill!!! It could be on the other end of things, in the case of of say, an update to cPanel or CloudStack or a domain registrar. We are reporting breakages here - not necessarily bugs in HostBill.

An excellent example of a breakage that is NOT a bug (although it was not a NEW breakage) is HERE, FYI :)

New post 4.6.4 Breakages:

  • iso99 reports HERE that modern panel isn't working - perhaps not present, following his update from 4.5.2 to 4.6.4 - STATUS: still unconfirmed for users who already had that functionality included in 4.6.2 (Lawrence has offered to test tonight)
  • Danny reports HERE that the DMC-3 system domain registrar module (CPS-Datasysteme) introduced in 4.6.0 is now broken following his update from 4.6.2 to 4.6.4 - STATUS: Not a breakage. This is a bug present from the initial release of the product and he has it working now - see the thread for more particulars.

The changelog has a couple of bugs fixed which I reported last week. This is positive, I did not upgraded yet, but do you ask to report here new bugs or broken upgrades?

Not a single upgrade so far broke my install ever. One time I did got errors after an upgrade, but I figured out my software did not transfer all files completely so I just did a second and third overwrite.

Besides that, none update broke my install so far.

If you mean new bugs, that is another story, but we need to confirm if they are new, or actually old that we just discovered.

Patrick

I simply want to know if the auto update removes modern panel as reported by another user.  So if someone has a dev license, feel free to give that a shot, just backup your modern panel files.

The modernpanel is in the official download. If nobody can confirm this will remove the template, I'll test it tonight.

For pre 4.6 features, nothing should be removed, and if its the case, its a mistake and you should upload the files back.

I download the software manually, so this actually lets me check what which folders and files are included. And nothing is removed, sidepad is still there as well. Not sure you guys are downloading the software, because you just need to open the zip file and look inside.

New Breakages. Things that were reportedly working before the updates were applied.

New Fixes too. Things confirmed to be working now following the update, that were not working before. i.e., The quotes/estimates system, had a bug report, it was reported fixed in the changelog by kbkp - it was not. Therefore, it would not show up here as a new breakage or fix.

If you are pretty sure it was working before and now it is broken following an update, it is a new breakage. Bugs should be reported wherever else you think is appropriate.

modernpanel....

A lot of this doesn't make sense to me. I read that post from the user... iso99 I think. He went from a few versions back to 4.6.4 and although I'll post it as a possible and unverified breakage (I won't upgrade until I know), here's what I think happened:

sidepanel and modern panel were included through 4.5.8, removed a/o 4.6.0 - that is why new, owners a/o 4.6.0+ must buy them - because they're not included in the modules dir. sidepanel was introduced at 4.5.4 or 4.5.6 I tihnk, and modern panel at 4.5.8 - since iso99 didn't install 4.5.8 as part of his upgrade process he skipped completely over their introduction/inclusion, and removal.

unzipping a local copy of the 4.6.0/2/4 archives should demonstrate this if I'm correct, and if I'm not, then I have to wonder why it is for sale as a separate item in the new hb store - it it's there, then it should be available and not have to be purchased to activate, right?

Interesting. So why won't it work (This is an assumption) for people who are new owners post 4.6.0, where they are required to purchase those theme/template modules?

So this is actually very bad news. I'm going to hold off updating until I know that modenpanel will continue working. Lawrence should be testing tonight on his dev box.

What do you mean it won't  work? If its there it must work, there is no functionality that disables or enables something, so if your download has it in the templates folder, it should work.

If you purchased hostbill at 4.6.0 you don't get this and like all orderpages and modules, it needs to be purchased. And so it will not be in your download.

I don't mean anything. I didn't say that. Don't put words in my mouth please. I'm not the one reporting the breakage, am I?

I can confirm only that templates/modernpanel exists in the hostbill_version4.6.4.zip that *I* downloaded, and that is all, because I have not yet performed an update to 4.6.4.

I will continue to update the original post as updated reports roll into this thread, and I'll create a new thread each week for breakages and fixes  until we come up with a better system :)

All edit history is enabled in all posts by Lawrence, and that is a good thing - I may think kbkp is a scumbag meat head, but I think I am pretty fair when it comes to technical issues. Breakages are not neccessarily bugs.

But who  is reporting this? Patrick is only asking here, I think this comes so far from one single user, if two can replicate it, then it will be a bug.

The reporting party is listed in the original post HERE

We're not reporting bugs here - only new breakages and new fixes. Please review the original post.

I hope that helps :)
