Geolocation works for you?

This is an interesting question, but since I purchased hostbill almost a year ago the Geolocation in the chat, which is also advertised in their pages never ever worked for me. I mean never.

Instead of loading Google maps all I see is a message:

Loading maps...

And thats it.

Is this just me or does someone actually have this working?

Patrick

I too can confirm it's not working currently.  It did work before though, i just can't remember what version it was.  I personally rarely use it and none of my staff reported it to me so i'm assuming none of us use it.  Nevertheless, i'd like to see this working.

When i say it was working in the past, i'm talking 6-10 releases ago.

It sure did not worked for me 6-10 releases back.

I don´t use that either, but my point is that its advertised in the chat feature and I don´t think anyone here ever got it. If you start to look their features pages, there are allot of supposed nice stuff in their screenshots which never made it to the software, not at least in my case.

No i absolutely agree with you but ours did work 100% but i'm talking many, many releases ago.  it could have been further back then what i'm guessing in my first post.  Though it's rarely used by us, the feature being advertised should be there and only brings us to the regression testing

Did someone reported this as a bug?

I also have a nice idea. Since this is the unofficial hostbill forums would it no be fair to make a sticky posts here in the forums of all features not working and bugs?

I think it would be very fair for someone that wants to make a choice before purchase and it would also put public pressure on the thousand dollar price tag software.

I mean about those bugs that are here for months or years, the ones we all can replicate, so we can confirm they are bugs, or features not working.

I mean I posted already 3 in the last 5 minutes which I think most can confirm.

Patrick

If it's a big enough bug to bring attention to, i'd sticky the topic.  So far nothing important enough to bring attention to some threads over others.  I like the idea of coming here first to confirm with others if a bug exists like you have because KBKP doesn't allow comments on bug reports.

I mean one sticky thread, where only a moderator updates the list with confirmed bugs. Confirmed means at least 2 people, since we have different installation and I guess different environments, what are he chances of both hitting the same...

They are big bugs if they are advertised as sales features for months in hostbill like here:
https://hostbillapp.com/clientarea/?/software_store/applications/livechat/

Check the hostbill main site, and slider, how many features are advertised there which are false?

At least Kayako, when they launched v4, had the decency not to post as features things that were not working, which they removed. Because its false advertising. Hostbill does the same here. As a prospective customers I see that and think that is what I get, just to find out later its not working, not today, but ever in my case.

Patrick

Actually i like your idea and i think lawrence may like it too.  Create a thread with a list of confirmed bugs, neatly listed and i'll lock/sticky it.  I think this doesn't seem like a bad idea but if Lawrence doesn't like it i'm sure he'll remove the thread.

it's a good way to keep track locally here what bugs/priority exist and if confirmed to be fixed.  I can take on the task of updating the thread.  Just has to be organized and clean.

I fixed this, like other 50 bugs so far.

The others I can´t because this stupid files are encoded.

The issue happens if you run your install and for that matter the chat under SSL because Kris was to lazy to put and "s" in front of the url that calls the API from Google. So your browser will block it, because of course it will not allow insecure content from an external server.

Here is the FIX:

Open the file

popup.js

Its located under the admin folder under:
Quote/admin/templates/default/hbchat/media

Go to line 801 and change the url from http: to https:

Patrick

since this is your fix, make sure you place it under quick fixes.  Nice catch

I can confirm this broke several updates back also. I also can't get it to import the updated Maxmind list into the DB. It just hangs on the import every single time. I opened a ticket and its never been looked at.

Very depressing. I should have stopped "upgrading" back around 3.8. That's the last time I remember everything working perfectly for me. Since then, more bugs introduced, more things breaking. But hey! They roll out more useless* IPAM and OnApp stuff (*useless for me anyway).

For an interesting perspective, go to their site and look at the changelog. Scroll way down to early versions and look at how many bugfixes they were  busy on, compared to now. The list is shorter these days, but it doesn't mean it's because of less bugs.

Well IPAM is something i'd say is very needed for most businesses in the hosting industry.  Without IP management you're a mess :)

As I said, for me it's not needed. I'm not exactly open to the general public as a hosting company. I have a base of customers that need the hosting and servers for development needs, design, etc.
