How to make a unique registration field.

Hello!
I buy a plug-in sms verification of customers, but it has a problem that the developers do not want to fix hostbill. Need to make the "Phone Number" unique because at the moment, one phone number, you can register multiple accounts. How can I solve this problem yourself? Currently did check a phone number using javascript, but I am not quite satisfied with this option.

Since the source code closed, had to do a validation of a phone number before sending the registration form via ajax. As time has shown, it was enough to prevent anyone from registering for an account on one phone number. Sorry for my english :)
