QuoteWe will deprecate Auto Updater Script. Please do not use Auto Updater Script for upgrading your HostBill.
Please use the link above to download HostBill.

I think the reason why they do this is to control, who can download the updates, so they only give download access to them, that have buyed the service packs.

Now we must upload all updates everytime manually and you can no more exclude files from being overwritten, as you can do it on the auto updater :(

Well...the download link can be shared far more easy than making a SQL dump. So basically they kinda pushed everybody to download an unnecessary .zip file (which anybody can share) and kill one of the most useful HostBill features.

Congrats to the management for making their product more and more repulsive. Maybe this will force their competition to get better faster (my bet is on Blesta). Keep up the "good" work HostBill!  8)

I don't like that I have to download from a source that isn't linked from the hostbill client area. How can I be sure that link is legit?

Danny

yes, i also cannot understand why they not link the download on the hostbill client area ... if we already have to do the updates manually, because they want to remove the auto updater, than please link the download on the hostbill site .

Here's HostBill's official reply:

QuoteHi Razvan, This release contains updates for HostBill license only. The changes HostBill release cycles for 1-2 months, so autoupdater is not necessary.

So there you have it. So long fast-patches & updates. Hello manual updates. :)

kdaws_dean

They really need a licensing model like WHMCS one that is actually sustainable and allows for constant updates and developments.

Licensing seems to change from week to week and now service packs !

So it is farewell to free lifetime updates !

Razva, could you add a  couple of questions to your ticket or how ever you got answers from hostbill;

1. Is the download link legit? https://kbkpsoftware.box.com/x/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Is it possible to have the updates downloadable from the client area so we know that they are safe to install?

This is insane! I was really hoping after several years that they have learned their lesson, but they still haven't learned a s***!
Auto update is gone and say welcome to service pack. So anyone who bought the license back in 2010-2013 they now have no updates unless you buy the service packs!

- If anyone want the latest files let me know. enough is enough, i will share the updates.

OMG this man is going crazy...

Hello WHMCS v5 (While I spy Blesta)

I now have to pay PER YEAR for Hostbill + modules what my full unbranded license cost in the first place. Just great!
Oh and that while he closed off my critical bug reports with "wontfix" and then just made them disappear completely?

I am many things, but I'm not insane enough for this!
