Where does he say this? I can't find it.

Thanks!

Here:
http://extras.hostbillapp.com/information-about-pricemodules-changes-in-4-6-0-release-for-current-customers/

We knew this before he posted that, but I think that is the only announcement about changes he made in months:

All orderpages released prior to 4.6.0 are included in download package for customers who purchased HostBill before mentioned release

So if its something released after 4.6.0 it should be paid.

Actually even that is not true, the SMS module was released before 4.6.0 and its still paid and always was for everyone. But you get the point, every new module is now paid.

Thanks Nibb.

So I assume, that if he updates the Onapp integration with a new feature, I won't get that updated feature without repurchasing the plugin? Only get security fixes?

Oi.

I don´t know, bugs yes. New features? I don´t know. From what I understand from the confusing faq, is that yes, you will get both updates and new features for all modules you already own.

@Iso99: I was wondering if you would share whether you perform all upgrades, incrementally in order, including patches, or if you sometimes just skip a few versions and let it all wrap up by moving past a couple of versions at a time.

I had a problem where I didn't apply a patch (for 4.6.0 I think), and then another patch (the security patch) was released. So I applied the second patch and was notified by the auto-updater (which doesn't work - we have to perform all upgrades manually, which is prolly best anyway, considering) that I still needed to apply the earlier patch.

I do all updates in order. It's the best course of action to make sure you get all functionality. Needless to say I have rightfully archived a copy of every version of HostBill so I will maintain this functionality should I ever need to reinstall.

I didn't do anything at first, and then 4.6.2 was released, so I upgraded to that version. But the notification was still there.

So I started all over again installing patch 1, then patch 2, then re-applied 4.6.2 and the notifications went away.

It was either that or do a restore I figured.

@Nibb, kbkp announced on the hostbillapp that there will be no new features for existing customers - Only updates, whatever that means, besides security and bug fixes. Any new functionality you can purchase for $200+ for each new module released.

I always download patches as they are security fixes and minor improvements. For new versions, when there was the official forums, I read about bugs first and decide if they will affect me. I usually update when I'm 2-3 versions late which in my experience, the bugs have been fixed from the previous releases. You just have to deal with the bugs from the latest release lol.

Right now, I always check the bugtracker and this forum for bugs in the software.

I never do updates in order and never had a problem with it. I tend to skip some versions all together.

What I dislike about Hostbill is that new versions are the full versions again. Since Kris does not seem to track changes or modifications to files.

In order softwares, you only download the new patch or modified files, this would be so much easier on updates, as you just overwrite the new modifications, instead of doing a full upgrade each time, which is what I do.

Of course not.  That theme is a premium theme... it costs $199.

Even Kris isn't dumb enough to include it in his new releases, otherwise... why would anyone pay for it if it's included free?

Roll back to 4.5.2 from your MariaDB backups and your hostbill dir tree backups.

Then follow the upgrade path one at a time, including the patches, in order, until you reach 4.6.4

Apparently, if something is released or changed in one version, perhaps even including .sql files that update your MariaDB structure, then you run the risk entirely of ever having that fix or new feature again. Pretty stupid on the part of kbkp, but stupid is as stupid does.

I had asked this exact question when I tried to skip over one single patch and I received an error from the autoupdate module, which complained that I still needed to apply the patch.

What I went through was a bit disconerting, but I always make backups first. Here's what happened to me:

Running Hostbill 4.6.0, skipped over hostbill_patch4.6.0_4308 and applied hostbill_patch4.6.0_4324 instead.

Autoupdate still said I needed to apply the 4308 patch. Then I upgraded to hostbill_version4.6.2 and the error message remained.

Then I ran a restore rolling back to 4.6.0, and applied hostbill_patch4.6.0_4308. Now I have a notification saying to apply hostbill_patch4.6.0_4324 (the 0day exploit patch), so I did, and then I had a notification saying to upgrade to hostbill_version4.6.2, which I did, and the notifications were gone and I was current.

Well maybe from now on you will LOL!

That brings up another question though, Where can we get older copies of HostBill? Whenever I go to kbkp I only see the very latest version. I think I should create a public archive on one of my webservers so people who miss one cycle don't end up with a broken install like iso99 just did.

I've got a bunch of old ones that I can put up. Besides, we need a public archive of all of this stuff anyway.

Ah that is bothersome auto-upgrade feature, KBKP don't upload the old versions. When I had my 30-days free support, I asked them about that and they won't provide the files. The sad part is you get 1 reply for every 24 hours haha.

Thanks for the advice, Tallship!

Can anyone else confirm this?  This would mean it's the first time the auto update DELETES files which is against what they said they'd ever do.  I'd really like if someone has a dev environment license to test this

The auto updater should not delete features. If it does, and someone was using the Modern Panel template, then that would mean HostBill just broke your website's functionality. There will be errors.

Kindest regards,

Who confirmed this? Lawrence said he would test it. Patrick does not said this either, he is asking. So we all assuming based on the problem of one single user. At least 2 persons should confirm this in their installs.

I confirm I have the theme in my download.

You're not understanding.  I can also confirm it's in my MANUALLY DOWNLOADED copy, but 1 user reported Modern Panel being removed on auto update.  This is not about manual downloads, it's about if modern panel was removed when auto updating.  Meaning Hostbill may have removed modern panel purposely or accidentally and this is what is being asked.

It doesn't take 2 users to see what happened.  To verify it does, but if 1 user notices something go wrong, it's enough to proceed with caution.
