Best option for placing an order for deferred payment

Dear All,

We want to start selling some products/services that we don't want to accept payment for straight away as some pre-checking is required before the order is accepted.  (In some cases, the order might not be able to be progressed due to the customer not meeting a certain criteria - for example, Broadband not being available in their area).

What is the best way to take the customer through the sign-up process but not ask them for credit/debit/PayPal?  In essence, a slightly modified sign-up process for orders that require some checking post receiving the details.

If this does not make sense then please ask some questions.
Kind regards,

This depends on what you are trying to accomplish...

1. If you are just looking to not AUTOMATE the collection of payment, you can create/modify an order scenario and make the payment authorization / capture steps manual.  This would still collect the CC info, but it wouldn't process it until you manually told it to do in the order.

2. You could add a "mail in payment" type that you would "name" deferred and customize the order template to place a note that the deferred payment option should be selected for the order.  Or if its possible (Idk because I haven't done it or looked into it), you could customize the template to filter the payment types to only show deferred and customize your other templates to show all except deferred.  This would work if you wanted to avoid cc capture altogether.

3. Again brainstorming and don't know if it is possible, but you could customize an order template that simply does not ask / include the payment information fields.

Thank you very much - let me have a look and come back.

I think I am going to use option 2 which is a good half-way house until my developer can customise the order pages

Thank you once again for the great pointers.
